Ziyan is a creative and strategic thinker with strong conceptualisation and unique visual crafts where he take nature as his key inspirations. Trained in visual and brand design, he pursuits his passion in painting and sculptural artworks. He is constantly intrigued by the characteristics of various materials such as stone, bronze, steel, wood which he chooses to work with as a medium in his artistic experession. He is commissioned to work on public installation artworks which includes sculptural art pieces, relief murals and paintings for attractions namely the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Gardens by the Bay, Fort Canning Park, Jurong Lake Gardens and more.
He was also commissioned to design our SG50 commemorative currencies, Singapore Bicentennial commemorative currency, Lee Kuan Yew 100th birth anniversary commemorative coin, the Brunei Darussalam and Singapore 50th Anniversary of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement commemorative currencies and numerous commemorative stamps and coins.
Mr Eng diverse portfolio and prolific career bear testimony to a journey of discovery and reflection. His sense of precision, attention to detail, has enabled him to craft many wonderful masterpieces ranging from very small scale design such as stamps, coins to huge murals and sculptures which can be found in many of our public spaces and parks.
His works also include the currency notes of Singapore, at least 60 stamp sets and 18 sets of commemorative coins. Mr Eng’s excellent works and contributions to the art and design scene have seen him receiving the prestigious UNESCO NOMA Concourse prize. He was also the recipient of the Asia’s Most Beautiful Stamps award while coming in 2nd in the Most Beautiful Stamp in the World award in 2003.
Mr Eng's achievements as a designer was endorsed nationally by his winning of the President's Design Award 2007 (Designer of the year). In its citation, the jury noted that "in an age where we are inundated with digital design, it is very inspiring to see that the Art and Craft tradition is still alive and thriving in Singapore, through the versatile public design works of this Grand Master."
